Back from Vacation

Well, I’m back, and I’m ashamed to say that I did absolutely nothing productive. I’ll eventually get something done, but I’m still too tired.

I do want to know if anyone else is interested in the writers’ group idea (beside the lovely writersword–go read her story Takes a Tragedy for excellent Reid-ness). Don’t know yet how it’s going to work out, but if you’re a writer, or if you read fanfic and have been thinking about writing some of your own, we’ll be happy to have you.

Poll! There have been 13 voters so far (that’s an interesting number) and the top three results are: characterization, plot, and writing style. No votes at all for theme or canon accuracy…intriguing. Anyway, I’m leaving it open for now, so feel free to vote if you haven’t yet! And super-thanks to all the nice people who voted (after I badgered them with PMs). You’re very sweet.

So…yeah. Nothing else to say. I’m going away now. Bye. *slinks off*

Edit: I forgot to mention that I changed the theme. I was bored with the old one (and just bored in general) so I changed it to this cool blue-grey-white one. Tell me what you think!

Vacation

I’m going on vacation to New Orleans for four days. I’m pretty excited, because my mom and are planning on shopping and going to the museum. She wants to go to the new Insectarium (?) thing but I’m not too fond of bugs, so that may not happen. I hope the hotel has internet, or I shall be bored. Of course, when I can’t get online, I tend to write more…which would make you lot happy.

Even if I went bonkers and no longer wanted to write Learning a Lesson, I think I would anyway because I adore the reviews I get from readers. Looking at my statistics page, I have 21 reviews for three chapters (average of 7 a chapter!) and over 1000 hits. It gives me a very a happy feeling to see review alerts in my inbox.

I do believe that fanfiction is the crack for this generation. :)

Something I’m thinking about: a virtual writer’s group for fanficcers. I don’t have anyone beta my stories, because they’re usually pretty correct, but I would enjoy getting critical feedback as well as helping other writers. If you’re interested, leave a comment.

I made a poll about what readers consider crucial to a well-written story. It’s over >>>there>>>, on the sidebar. If you have a second, please pick some answers! It’s for a good cause: improving the quality of fanfiction.

New LaL Chapter & Some Previews

So, I did it. Learning a Lesson just got updated, right on time. I like the chapter.

Stuff I am still working on: Outside in the Cold (Deliberate Prequel), Confidence Man (Sarah/Reid one-shot), and a prequel for my one-shot Absinthe, since several people asked for it. And because I love you people, I’m going to preview all three of them right here!

Outside in the Cold

Something wasn’t right. The skin on his skull was itching the way it did when he spent all day under the sun, but it was winter in Ipswich, and the sun hadn’t made an appearance in weeks. Someone was watching him.

Reid leaned over the pool table to line up his shot, but his concentration was shot. He screwed it up, and with Caleb only a few feet away, he didn’t dare Use to correct his mistake. Aaron Abbot crowed in delight.

Tyler gave Reid a look. It said what’s up with you? Reid shook his head. He wasn’t sure yet if he wasn’t imagining the feeling, and even if there was someone watching him, it was probably just the guy whose girl had messed around with Reid. The blond-haired Son of Ipswich could handle jealous boyfriends on his own.

His Ascension was next week, after all. In seven days Reid would turn eighteen and get one of the best birthday presents ever: a massive power upgrade. Anticipation curled his lips into a smirk, and he banished the creeping sensation to the back of his mind.

Confidence Man

Sarah was confused. “We walked down Main Street for a while, then he drove me back. Why?” This was weird. Why was she talking about her date to Reid, of all people?

The young man in question rolled his eyes. “Christ. Do I need to give him a manual or something?” There was more animation in his frame now; he straightened some and gestured with his glove-clad hands.

“What on earth are you talking about, Reid?” Thing was, Sarah had a feeling she knew what he meant, and that was not something she wanted to discuss.

“Caleb couldn’t get to second base with a map complete with twenty paces and X marks the spot, that’s what I’m talking about,” Reid snarled.

Opium (Absinthe Prequel)

There was a certain degree of dishonesty involved in Auror work. The instructor at the very first day of training had admitted as much. Sometimes, the wizard had told the room of rookies, Aurors were required to lie in order to perform their duties. Working undercover was an important part of keeping the peace of the Wizarding world, and though it could be difficult, it was part of the job.

Actually, that was paraphrasing. What the veteran Auror had really said had been more like: “Lying and keeping secrets will save your arses more often than fancy spellwork, and if you can’t lie, you damn well better learn how.”

Ginevra Weasley, Junior Auror attached to IDA (Investigation of Dark Activity), had learned how to lie. She had learned so well, in fact, that she was given a special assignment.

Get close to Draco Malfoy, suspected of funding illegal Death Eater activites, and find out his secrets.

Well, there you go! I hope y’all are interested in reading the completed fics. Comment and tell me what you think!
